KING AND HIGH PRIEST
Concerning the genealogy of Jesus Christ, many are only knowledgeable of the tribe of Judah. For example: Son of David,
house of David, seed of David, offspring of David, Root of David, stem of Jesse.
Rev.5:5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David,
hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
However, what scriptural documentation is there about Jesus Christ being of the Priest line or the tribe Levi? In The New
Testament, there are two genealogies of Jesus Christ, one in Matthew and one in Luke.

__Genealogy In Matthew__
Matt.1:6 And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had
been the wife of Urias;
Matt.1:16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called
Christ.
Matt.1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was
espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Matt.1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his
name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
This genealogy in Matthew is Joseph’s, the husband of Mary.
Observe Solomon the son of David, Joseph’s lineage does go through the King line.
Only through adoption is Jesus Christ part of Joseph’s genealogy.

__Genealogy In Luke__
Luke 3:23 And Jesus Himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the
Son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,
The words “was supposed” nomizo in Greek means “as reckoned by law”.
Jacob begot Joseph and only by marriage with Heli’s daughter (Mary), is Joseph Heli’s son in law.
Luke 3:31 Which was the son of Melea, which was the son of Menan, which was the son of
Mattatha, which was the son of Nathan, which was the son of David,
Observe Nathan the son of David, not of Solomon or the King line.
Luke 3:38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam,
which was the son of God.
It is important to note this genealogy starts with Jesus and goes backward to Adam.
Gen.3:20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
This is why Eve was the mother of all living, umbilical cord to umbilical cord would be born Jesus Christ.
It was God’s plan to defeat death (Satan) that is death of spirit and soul, from the planting in the garden to Jesus Christ.
Heb.2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part of
the same; that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

__High Priest Lineage__
In scripture, we find nothing written about Mary’s mother but there are some clues.
Luke 1:5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias,
of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
Zacharias’ wife Elisabeth was of the daughters of Aaron, or a full blood Levite.
The angel Gabriel sent by God to Mary and said;
Luke 1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a Son, and shalt call
His name JESUS.
The name Jesus (Iesous) is of Hebrew origin and means “Yehovah’s savior”.
Luke 1:32-33 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God
shall give unto Him the throne of His father David: 33 And He shall reign over the house of Jacob
for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
There shall be no end to Jesus Christ’s kingdom

__High Priest Lineage__continued__
Luke 1:34-35 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the
power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of
thee shall be called the Son of God.
Isa.7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall
call his name Immanuel.
Luke 1:36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and
this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
This word “cousin” suggenes in Greek means “kinswoman blood relative” therefore, Mary’s lineage through her mother leads
to the tribe of Levi, daughters of Aaron or the Levitical priesthood.
Heb.5:5-6 So also Christ glorified not Himself to be made an High Priest; but He that said unto Him, Thou art My
Son, to day have I begotten Thee. 6 As He saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of
Melchisedec.

__Colloquy With Scribes And Pharisees__
John 8:54 Jesus answered, If I honour Myself, My honour is nothing: it is My Father That
honoureth Me; of Whom ye say, that He is your God:
Father honored Jesus by a voice from heaven, both at His baptism, and transfiguration, declaring Him to be His beloved Son,
and by the works and miracles He did by Him.
John 8:55 Yet ye have not known Him; but I know Him: and if I should say, I know Him not, I
shall be a liar like unto you: but I know Him, and keep His saying.
Steeped in the traditions, doctrines, and precepts of men they did not know God.
John 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day: and He saw it, and was glad.
Abram, later Abraham perceived God’s plan of salvation and rejoiced when he had Communion with Melchizedek.
John 8:57 Then said the Jews unto Him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast Thou seen
Abraham?
How did Jesus know Abraham perceived and rejoiced?
John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
I am that I am, Emmanuel God with us, was standing there conversing with them.

__War on Sodom__Rescue Of Lot__
Gen.14:18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest
of the Most High God.
Melchizedek = King of righteousness
king of Salem = King of peace
Notice that Melchizedek brought forth bread and wine for Communion.
Melchizedek was the priest of the Most High God.
Gen.14:19-20 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the Most High God, possessor
of heaven and earth: 20 And blessed be the Most High God, Which hath delivered thine enemies
into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
Abram gave Melchizedek tithes of all.

__A Priest For Ever__
Psa.110:4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever After the order
of Melchizedek.
Forever includes the world that then was, the heavens and the earth which are now, and a new heaven and a new earth.
The word “new” kainos in the Greek would be better translated “rejuvenated”.
