New Bible Reader? Here’s Where To Start!

By: Brother Bill

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Are you a new Christian? Have you just accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord of your life? Are you eager to begin reading the Bible but don't know where to start?

Or, maybe you've been a Christian for some years, as I was, and still can't seem to make "heads or tails" of what you read. Maybe you've decided you were going to read your Bible from Genesis to Revelation and then got bogged down in Leviticus.

Whatever your situation is, I've got a suggestion for you: start reading in the books which best describe who you are now that you have chosen to be a follower of Christ Jesus.

And where is that? In the books that describe who you are now in Christ: Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians. They're all short, concise letters that the apostle Paul wrote to the Christian communities in Ephesus, Philippi,a and Colosee.

They were written to encourage, strengthen, and remind them of whom they had become by accepting Christ Jesus. And God intended these books for us as well.

Ephesians consists of only six short chapters; Philippians only four; Colossians four as well. You could easily read each in only one sitting--or even all three! But don't settle for just one reading. These books are mighty! Immerse yourself in them. As with the rest of the Bible, these books were inspired by God. These three books were written by the apostle Paul, whom God inspired to write most of what we call the New Testament.

As you read, accept with an open mind and heart what God is telling you about your new position in Christ.

Once you have read these books and learned where you are now with God you can read the remainder of the Bible with that inner understanding. Let the prompting of the Holy Spirit--Who dwells inside you--interpret the Word of God in light of your new position in Christ.

Love,
Brother Bill
