Christian Articles | Through God’s Goodness Your Sins Are Forgiven Part I

For many years in my life I just could not accept that God, by His grace, mercy and goodness had forgiven all of my sins. There was always this dark cloud of my past sins hanging over my head. I begged for His forgiveness for the same sins over and over again. As a result I lived for many years in bondage. In this article I want to show you from God’s word how to end this circle of condemnation.

When things went wrong in my life and I wanted to ask God for help I felt totally unworthy. I said to myself: I can’t ask God for help! I am not good enough! I started to confess my old sins over, and over and over again. Every time I needed help from the Lord, I was convinced, that all the great and wonderful promises of God where not for me because of my past sins. But thanks be to God, over time I learned, understood and believed that because of Christ’s death on the cross all of my sins, past, present and future where already forgiven.

Let me show you two things you need to change in order to deal with your condemnation issues once and for all.

Change Your Direction

1 John 1:7 (Amplified)
But if we [really] are living and walking in the Light, as He [Himself] is in the Light, we have [true, unbroken] fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses (removes) us from all sin and guilt [keeps us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations].

Isn’t this a wonderful promise of our Lord? He cleanses and keeps you cleansed from all sin and guilt! How do you walk in His light? Very simply put, you live your life God’s way as good as you can – no more and no less.

I want you to picture yourself taking a walk on a bright and sunny day. You have two choices. You can either walk towards the sun or you can walk in the opposite direction, away from the sun. It doesn’t matter which way you go, you are still walking in that beautiful sunshine. Does it matter which direction you go?

Yes, it does! What will you see when you turn your back towards the sun, when you walk away from it? You see your shadow! You can try running away from your shadow – it will not work. You can try to jump over it – good luck! No matter what you are going to try, your shadow will always be right in front of your eyes.

This shadow is a picture of your past - your past sins and shortcomings. Like your shadow, they are always before your eyes. You try everything: you pray; you confess over and over again; you make promises; you cry; you do good works and much more. Does that make your guilt and condemnation go away? No!

What do you have to do to get rid of your shadow, of your past? You have to change your direction. You have to turn around and walk straight towards the sun. Is your shadow gone? Not really. It is still there. But where is it? It is BEHIND you! Why? Because you changed your direction and you changed your focus.

Walking in the light in this way means that you expose yourself totally to the bright light of the Lord Jesus. His word will become your light and your sunshine. You will start to enjoy reading your Bible. His promises are going to create an excitement within you. His peace will overwhelm you and His presence will become very real to you. You will focus more and more on Him instead on your past failures.

All of a sudden there will be an abundance of joy and peace in your life that passes all natural understanding.
Why? Because the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses (removes) you from all sin and guilt and keeps you cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations.

The song that Helen H. Lemmel wrote will become a wonderful reality in you life:
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.”

That is what walking in the light and walking toward the light means: turning your eyes, your focus on Jesus.

Let’s sum it up.
Why do we feel so many times guilty and under a mountain of condemnation? Why do we feel unworthy of all of God’s blessings? Why don’t we live in the wonderful freedom and prosperity that Christ wants us to experience? Why do we live without joy and excitement?
We do, because we do not understand and believe that through God’s goodness and mercy and through His sacrifice on the cross all of our sins past, present and future are already forgiven.

If you expose yourself to the light of God, if your focus is on His promises and if you ask Him to reveal His truth to you, you will no longer walk towards your shadow but you will begin to walk in all of His fullness and glory. You will shout for joy because you will know that you know that there is noooooo condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus and in His light.
